Current position

Senior Data Scientist at Grundfos AS
2018 - present

Employed as a Senior Data Scientist at Grundfos A/S in the Digital Development and Innovation department. The main focus of my position is driving increased utilization of data within our manufacturing to optimize our production processes. This includes planning and leading advanced analytics projects, as well as executing these myself.

I am also involved in activities on the more strategic level, related to the Industry 4.0 transformation, as seen from a data analytics perspective, including various change management and process activities.

Education

Heidelberg University

2012 - 2015

PhD student in astronomy at the Landessternwarte, Heidelberg University. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Norbert Christlieb and Dr. Luca Sbordone. My thesis work was focussed on deriving accurate elemental abundances and isotopes of magnesium in giant stars in the globular cluster 47 Tucanae as well as in the Milky Way Bulge and Inner Disk.

Aarhus University

2009 - 2012

Masters student in astronomy at Aarhus University, supervised by Prof. Søren Frandsen. My thesis was titled "Fundamental parameters of a sample of red giants in the Kepler field" and was aimed at deriving abundances and parameters for a large number of asteroseismic targets, observed by the NASA Kepler satellite

Aarhus University

2006 - 2009

Bachelor student in physics. Thesis supervised by Dr. Frank Grundal. It was titled "An investigation of the eclipsing binary V3785 in NGC7789".

Work
experience
Postdoctoral researcher at Caltech
2015 - 2017

Employed at California Institute of Technology in the group of Prof. Evan Kirby.

My research is focussed on a holistic investigation of isotopic abundances of several elements, like Mg, Ba and C, in different stellar populations. This will be achieved using high-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra from the worlds' largest telescopes, like Keck and the VLT.

In addition I am computing 3D stellar atmospheric models in an effort to expand the current Co5bold grid of models to also include a large number of red giants.

Student Support Astronomer

2010 - 2011

Employed as a student support astronomer at the 2.5m Nordic Optical Telescope on La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. The work included performing service observations using the optical echelle spectrograph FIES and the optical imager/long slit spectrograph ALFOSC. The job also included regular support astronomer duties, where I introduced visiting astronomers to the instrument of their observing run, as well as helping troubleshoot throughout their scheduled time.

Show Physicist

2008 - 2012

Employed as a show physicist by Fysikshow Aarhus (in Danish). Physics outreach to young people aged 14-19, with a strong focus on the students' understanding rather than just entertaining them. A typical working day would be visiting a school, do 2-3 shows of 1h duration, for different classes. The shows aimed at illustrating how fascinating physics can actually be. Check out our youtube channel for examples of experiments.

Observing Experience

2009 - 2017

  • Keck Telescopes, Hawaii, USA: 3 nights

  • ESO Very Large Telescope, Paranal, Chile: 6 nights

  • Nordic Optical Telescope, La Palma, Spain: 57 nights

  • IAC80cm, Tenerife, Spain: 6 nights

  • Isaac Newton Telescope, La Palma, Spain: 1 night
